COVID-19 Protocol

Yeah, it’s not our favourite topic either, BUT with a few new protocols we’re confident we can make Actif Epica happen again in 2021.

  • Most importantly, if you are sick or if you have been around people who are sick and/or have recently (within one incubation period of two weeks) tested positive for Covid-19, or have been in recent contact with people who are waiting for Covid-19 test results, please do not come to the race. Check out the COVID site for a list of symptoms to watch out for.
  • We’re treating Covid-19 and self-quarantine due to contact with someone who has or may have Covid-19 the same as any other sickness that keeps you from racing after you register and unfortunately we are unable to provide refunds for sickness.
  • However, if the whole race is cancelled a portion of your registration fees may be refunded. Most expenses are incurred well in advance of race weekend so the amount available for refund will depend on costs that have already been incurred. We think it’s very unlikely that we’ll have to cancel the race though. See our Contingency Plans for more details.
  • No hot food at CheckPoints this year :(. We’ve really enjoyed hot food provided by our friends from the Crow Wing Trail, Crystal Spring, and our Niverville volunteers, but this year that service is just not possible.
  • Both the pre-race meeting and the pre-race gear check will be done virtually this year. Check out our Race Bible for more details.
  • You’ll sign a waiver online as you register that refers specifically to these Covid-19 guidelines, and you’ll again sign a similar waiver near the start line shortly before your race starts.
  • No spectators at CheckPoints this year, BUT spectators are encouraged to cheer for racers out on course while maintaining social distance.
  • No sharing of food and water between racers (normally we allow this) unless absolutely necessary.
  • Masks must be worn indoors if competitors visit businesses to take shelter or resupply, and of course any other protocols the businesses have must be followed too.
  • Masks must be worn inside all CheckPoints.
  • In light of social distancing measures it’s not fair of us to ask volunteers to pick you up at a CheckPoint or somewhere on course if you DNF, so it is highly recommended that you arrange for a close friend or family member (preferably someone you already have regular close contact with) to be ‘on call’ and ready to pick you up if you don’t make it to the finish line. If you need to be picked up and don’t have anyone to help with that we may call you a cab to get you home, at your expense.
  • Cell phones are mandatory for the Long Distance cyclists because at one ‘CheckPoint’ they’ll be texting Race Headquarters to check through. This is being done to limit the number of volunteer manned CheckPoints we need this year.
