On the morning of February 17, join us on the ice on the Assiniboine Credit Union River Trail and skate, ski, snowshoe, bike, run or walk TO WORK! Be a part of the first annual “Ice It To Work” Day on The Assiniboine Credit Union River Trail – the Guinness World Record‟s longest naturally frozen skating trail!

The Assiniboine Credit Union River Trail presents free programming and fun activities on the weekends for the whole family. Skate, walk, run or sled along the Guinness World Record-holding longest naturally frozen skating trail in the world and enjoy the picturesque sights of Winnipeg as you’ve never seen it before, from the frozen Assiniboine River.  On February 18th programming includes Inukshuk building, burling (bowling + curling) and the always popular fish toss.

Seine River Hike

Location: Winnipeg – Windsor Park

Save Our Seine (SOS) and Outdoor Urban Recreational Spaces – Winnipeg (OURS – Winnipeg) are co-sponsoring a Hike the Seine River event on February 18th. Meeting at the Nordic Centre (Windsor park Golf Club), Corner of Des Meurons & Regal at 10:30. We’re hiking the meandering Seine River between Windsor park and St Boniface Golf Courses to view wildlife and enjoy our Winnipeg winter. We plan to return to the Nordic Centre clubhouse by noon.

Kids West End Scavenger Hunt (with Bikes)

Location: Winnipeg – Orioles Bike Cage, 444 Burnell Street (at wading pool facility at Valour Community Centre, Orioles Site)

A free, fun kid-oriented scavenger hunt.  Prizes and hot chocolate.  Bring your bike if you have one (or just show up).  Scavenger hunt starts at 10 a.m.  Special thanks to Winnipeg Committee for Safety for event support.

Festiglace

Location: Winnipeg – Saint Boniface

Festiglace is a 3-day ice climbing festival beginning February 17th. Friday evening starts off the weekend with fire, music, camaraderie and a little icy contest to get the adrenaline going.  Saturday ramps up the weekend with a thrilling ice climbing competition.  Participants are challenged in a technical event that tests their power and prowess following by a totally mind blowing speed event up the 20-metre ice tower.  Sunday we “summit” with the Tournoi Alpin/Alpine Tournament, a fun team event embracing the spirit of mountaineering.

Location: Winnipeg – Bourkevale Park Community Club

An old fashioned stick toss shinney tourney of rec league players, and designed to be socially and environmentally responsible.

Funds raised through the tournament and social will go to the West Broadway Development Corp. learn to skate program. Food and beverages to be sourced locally—Half Pints beer coming from just up the road in St James, with additional selections from Gimli’s Royal Crown distillery. Fair trade organic social platters provided by Mondragon and pizza by the slice from the nearest pizza joint. Bikes, bike trailers, cargo vans and busses will bring us all together and get us home safely.

Niverville Snowman and Snow Fort Building Contest (Until February 15)

The Niverville Recreation and Wellness Commission is holding a contest to find the best snowman and snow fort builders in Town! To enter you simply register, build the snowman or snow fort prior to February 15th and take a picture of it with at least one of the builders standing beside it. Then email the picture(s) to the Rec and Wellness dept @[email protected]
Voting will be held at the arena on Monday February 20th during our family fun day events.
